Architecture and Cinema: Real and Fictional Spaces (August 2011)
Locarno, located on the banks of Lake Maggiore at the foot of the Alps, hosts since 1946 the Festival del Film Locarno, one of the oldest film festivals in the world. In the Spring Semester 2011 we have proposed the students to design a building for the “Cineteca Svizzera” which on one hand would increase the Festival venues and on the other would extend the presence of the cinema in the city during the whole year. In the dAP issue 4, we present a series of essays, projects and videos explaining the research developed around the relationship between the urban context of Locarno and the cultural context of the Festival and between architecture (with its physical reality) and the real fiction of the cinema.
